How to Crop an Image

How to Crop an Image
- Open the Crop Image tool.
- Upload your photo.
- Choose Free or a ratio chip such as 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, or 9:16.
- Drag the crop box to frame the subject.
- Download the cropped PNG.
Why it matters
Ratio-locked crops match platform frames without awkward letterboxing later.
Trimming clutter makes the subject read clearly at small sizes.
Tips
- For Instagram-style squares, use 1:1 before you resize.
- Crop first, then compress if you also need a smaller file.
- Leave a little margin around faces so tight mobile crops still look natural.
Crop is not compress
Cropping throws away pixels outside the box. It is the cheapest way to make a photo look intentional (avatars, 16:9 slides). File size drops some, but a kilobyte cap still wants Compress after.
Lock 1:1 for avatars before you resize. For PDF page margins use Crop PDF instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does crop change resolution?
Cropping reduces pixel dimensions to the selected region. It does not upscale the leftover area.
Can I crop without locking a ratio?
Yes. Choose Free and drag any rectangle.
