How to Prepare an Image for Email

Email clients punish huge attachments and exotic formats. A short prep pass — resize, compress, convert — prevents bounce-backs and clogged threads.
Aim for JPG or PNG, modest pixel widths, and a few hundred KB when you can.
How to Prepare an Image for Email
- Rotate or crop so the subject is upright and framed.
- Resize to a practical width (often 1200px or less for inline photos).
- Compress toward a size that fits your provider’s attachment limit.
- Convert HEIC/WebP/AVIF to JPG if recipients might be on older clients.
- Strip metadata if the photo should not carry GPS.
Why it matters
Corporate filters still reject oversized or uncommon image types.
Recipients on phones should not burn mobile data on a 12 MP original.
Tips
- Prefer JPG for photos; keep PNG for graphics with text or transparency needs.
- When sending many shots, a PDF packet or a compressed ZIP can be cleaner than ten full-res attachments.
