EXIF is the common name for the camera-written block inside many JPEGs: lens, shutter, timestamps, and more. Stripping EXIF is the privacy-minded default when a platform might keep the original bytes.

Frequently asked questions
Is EXIF the same as all metadata?
EXIF is the best-known block. Photos can also carry IPTC/XMP. The remover clears embedded tags broadly, not only the EXIF label.

JPEG and PNG are cleaned without a quality re-encode when possible.
