How to Remove Image Metadata

Sharing an original camera file can leak location history and device details. Removing metadata produces a cleaner file for public posts and client sends.

Why it matters
Public galleries and messaging apps do not always strip EXIF for you.

- Strip metadata on the copy you publish, and keep an original archive if you still need camera settings.
- Combine with blur/pixelate when the pixels themselves contain private text.
What EXIF actually leaks
Phone photos often include GPS, camera model, software, and timestamps. That is useful in your archive and careless on a public listing or a client preview. Messaging apps are inconsistent about stripping tags — assume they do not.
A2Z Edit’s stripper clears tags in the browser. JPEG and PNG can often stay lossless. Other formats may be re-encoded to PNG. Always download a copy; do not overwrite the only original if you still need the GPS for yourself.
What this does not hide
Metadata removal does not blur a face, a license plate, or a document number in the picture. Combine it with blur or PDF redaction when the pixels themselves are the secret. Also rename files like “passport-scan-front.jpg.”

Will quality drop?
JPEG and PNG are stripped losslessly when possible. Other formats may be saved as PNG.
